  1. I capture my DV home movies using Studio 7 or SClive. I edit them using Studio 7 and MSP Pro 6.0. I then save them to an intermediate .AVI file using MainConcept DV codec and convert them to VCD/SVCD using TMPGenc. The resulting movie is fine except for scenes wherein the camera was panned from left to right or vice versa. They appear to be "jerky or leaving some trails". I have tried all de-interlace options but still couldn't get them working smoothly. Even some MOVING transition effects (i.e page curls, fly) are behaving the same way.
What seems to be the problem? Is this because my source is a DV file?
What if I render to "Tape" instead of saving to AVI then capture again and convert to VCD/SVCD? Will it solve my problem? Any workaround please?

    Thank you for any help.

  2. What is your computer/cpu speed? Have you tried to convert to mpeg for vcd or dvd and did it play normally there?

MSP and Studio can be a bit jerky when rendering but the final product may play ok.

  3. Kitty,

I don't think it's a problem with my PC. I have P4 1.8Ghz, 512 DDR, 80GB Ultra100 WD capture drive. The problem is, when the movie (VCD/SVCD) is played back on my Pioneer DVD 535 player, I get these funny "trails or jerks" for scenes which were PANNED. Other than that, everything else is great. I suspect this is a problem with Interlacing. I have tried all options from TMPGenc but still couldn't get these scenes working smoothly.

  4. Your bit rate may be too low. If you are using standard constant bit rate SVCD try variable bit rate with a bit higher max. You can also try a xSVCD with a higher bit rate. Try on a CD-RW to see if you can eliminate the ghosting.
