  1. I am currently converting video tape to CD using the ADS Instant DVD. I have successfully installed a number of movies on my computer in MPEG1 using this device. Although the picture looks decent on the computer, it looks very blocky and pixalated when burned on CD and played on a stand alone DVD player. I was wondering if there are any options to improve picture quality to make it as near to the original souce as possible. Any help would be appreciated.

  2. Check the link below and ask questions there:

and from the FAQ of the above link:

Q14) What do I do if I capture blocky video from a VHS or tape source??
    A) What do I do if I have blocky video whenever using a VCR or tape device as the source?
    Suggestion:
Use a tape cleaner for the VCR or tape device to clean the heads of the source device

  3. I used a Sony DVMC-DA1 to do the same thing you are doing with your ADS device. The problem is bitrate. If your playback device will allow it, try using a higher bitrate in your MPEG-1 files. The consensus I've read is that 3000 is enough to get rid of blocks for a 352x240 MPEG-1 file.

FYI, 3000 is the minimum bitrate I use for any video file, unless it is a whole movie. I then use the KVCD template which works like a charm to fit around 120 minutes onto a CD.
