  1. Hi everyone,

Well I finally took the plunge and bought a DVD-RW drive ( Pioneer 104, £219.99 from www.bigpockets.co.uk, best offer I've ever seen ). Now I need some advice while I'm waiting for it to arrive.

What is the best authoring program to use with this drive, I already have Spruce-up and Ulead DVD Workshop, are there any others which are better with this particular drive? Also I'll be using Nero 5.5.9.0 to burn, will this be ok for set-top compatibility? (I own a Toshiba SD-220E)

I've also bought a load of Princo DVD-Rs, but then I read here that they aren't very good, can anyone who has used these with a player similar to mine please comment on this for me. If it helps, my Toshiba plays VCDs perfect, even on the cheapest media burned at 24x.

Any comments or advice on media or programs to use would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

  2. Compatibility of recorded media varies from player to player. Try it and if it works, keep doing the same thing (same media, burning procedures, software, etc). If it doesn't work, try another type of media, or other burning software, other authoring software, etc., etc.
As Churchill famously predicted when Chamberlain returned from Munich proclaiming peace in his time: "You were given the choice between war and dishonor. You chose dishonor, and you will have war."

  3. The authoring software you choose to use really depends on what you need and/or want. I personally prefer DVDIt because it allows more flexibility and has worked better for me than DVD Workshop.

As far as burning goes I have heard of some problems with the newest versions of Nero. Most people with DVD burners swear by Prassi PrimoDVD for burning, which is what I switched to from Nero when I got my Pioneer 104.
