  1. All this may be normall but this is what I'm strugling with:

I have ripped a wedding video from DVD. It has an origonal aspect ratio of 4:3. I am trying to produce a SVCD from this.

In TEMPGenc, if I set the input aspect ratio to 4:3 and the output to anything else the picture is strcheched vertically (things get squished and skinny).

Now if I set my input aspect ratio to 16:9 and the ouput to full screen (keep aspect 2) then thing are much better.

However, this is the strange thing: If I play the SVCD using Windows media player and go full screen, I get a nice square pictyre (almost) and things look normall. If I play the same thing in WinDvd and full screen, then I get it in letter box with things streched (fat and short).

What am I doing wrong, or is this normall?

    Thanks,

    Ray

Media player does not handle SVCD correctly. PowerDVD or WinDVD should show it how it will look on your TV. Remember that SVCD is stretched horizontally on playback from the original mpg. I don't think Medoa Player does this. If your source material is 4:3, you have several options in the *source aspect ratio* setting, depending on your source material. I would say you do need to choose one of the *video arrange method* *keep aspect ratio* options, probably full-screen.

  3. Well, I figured it out. The problem is that the preview in TMPGenc basically lies. What you see there is not what you get in the finished product. I set my input to 4:3 and output to fill screen (maintain aspect ratio 2) and everything is perfect when viewed in windvd. However when you look at the same thing in TMPGenc's preview it's stretched vertically.

In any case, I am happy now.

    Thanks.
