  1. Hi everyone,

I just recently purchased the new Plextor PlexWriter 40/12/40A burner. It works great on everything except VCDs and SVCDs. If I try to burn them at anything higher then 16x, I get pixelation and breaking up on the screen. I am using Verbatim 32x grade media, which is recommended on Plextor's site for 40x burning.

Can I not burn at anything higher then 16x for VCDs, or is there something that I am missing?

  2. I use Imation 32x media and burn my VCDs at 20x (Philips CDRW2010), and I've never had a bit of trouble, noise or coasters. When I had Imation 16x media (the player seems to love Imation disks), I only burned at 16x (not in a big enough hurry to exceed rated spec), but I'd think you ought to be able to burn VCDs reliably at 32x with that drive.
As Churchill famously predicted when Chamberlain returned from Munich proclaiming peace in his time: "You were given the choice between war and dishonor. You chose dishonor, and you will have war."

  3. Verbatim 32x (& 40x) grade media has been reported as having alot of errors...

    Verbatim CD-R 700 MB 32x:
Error rates skyrocket after the first half of the disc at 32x. Lowering the speed to 20x or 16x doesn't help much. Especially prone to this are the Plextor and Benq 40x drives. Lite-On 40x works a bit better with this disc. Average BLER is 26.43 errors/second. High. Good CD-Rs like the Teac 24 have 0.77 errors/sec here. Maximum was a surprising 196 errors/sec: immensely high! The hardware CD-R tester asserted both E22 and E32 (uncorrectable) errors - very bad! Atip (Absolute Time in Pregroove): 97m 34s 22f

I know 40x cd-rs are still new...Hopefully 40X CD-R manufacturers will get their act together.
