I have a still GIF image that I have been putting at the front of my videos. I have tried to add transitions to have the image spin off or fade into the avi but for some reason it never works. It goes just goes strait into the avi... I am new to premier so I am sure the fix is something easy... please help!

Try lengthning the time of the gif image and also ensure that the gif image and the avi overlaps cause the overlap area is where you place your transition. In your overview, do you see the transition? To see your transition you have to render it, or alternatively use Alt + drag over the timeline.

The gif image and the avi file should been on video 1a and b. The just drag the transition in the transition box between them. Make the clip cross each other. After doing that you have to preview the area to see the correct result.
