  1. I would like to hear comments from users who own and use the Hauppauge WinTV PVR-USB or PVR-250. How is the SVCD quality at various bitrates? Can you cut the files with out losing sync? If any one knows of a site with some SVCD samples made with these units, I would appreciate them posting a link to the samples.

I owned an ADS USB Instant DVD but got rid of it because of poor audio, poor SVCD quality and cutting problems. I just want to make sure the Hauppauge is not going to be more of the same.

    Thanks

  2. Barnabas....best of luck. And if you are able to conquer it, let me know. I bought Win TV PVR pci a year and a half ago. Dropped the idea of digitizing VHS / TV after chronically unacceptable quality results under any settings for direct MPG1/2 generation. Poor video and sync problems. Have resumed now after much reading here, and capture AVI with Virtual Dub, edit ,and frameserve to TMPEnc. Now I can get a SVCD worth watching that is as good as a VHS tape, but of course, takes me ( Plll 650 ) about 15 hours to cap, edit, convert and burn each episode of Star Trek ( TOS). Don't know how much more time will be added if I try to delogo?

  3. drdy111956,

Do you have the older PVR, or the newer 250-250 PVR, which has the newer IVAC chipset? Doing some research, it looks like the IVAC makes much better looking captures than the older chip did. Like you, I have upgraded to XP, mainly so I can get past the 4 gig limit and now do avi captures. I use a Pro-video PV-231 for my VCD's caps.

  4. Barnabas..I have the older PVR. But I have continued to check for any software / driver upgrades / patches that would make this sucker give good results. Best I could come up with was capping at 12 MB/s MPG2 , which then didn't save any time as it wasn't SVCD compliant, and I still had to convert with either Ulead VDMF or TMPGEnc. Often would still have bad frames and issues in converting. Alas, it still functions as a PC TV and as a capture card, but the MPG aspect of it was very disappointing.

    Just so you know
WinTV-PVR "Vision Tech Kfir MPEG2 video and audio encoder"
    WinTTV-PVR USB "iCompression iTVC12"
    WinTV-PVR 250/350 "iCompression iTVC15"

Min folks had good results from the first PVR where other didn't it all depend on the source you capture from.

  6. Thanks for all the replies, but I still have not been able to find any site that has some SVCD captures done with this unit. If anyone knows of such a site, please post a link to it.

    Thanks
