  1. I'm trying to cut the commercials out of a TV show that I captured. Whenever I try to use the merge/cut tool the audio and video go out of sync. Also, when I try to de-multiplex the mpeg the video is shorter than the audio. TMPEGEnc dosen't give me any error messages or warnings.

Sounds like you mpeg has junk frames, TMPGEnc can only merge/cut good mpeg files. These junk frames are usually made by capturing direct to mpeg, since mpeg1 files were not designed to be edited, it is now difficult to remove them.

To prove this, capture a small file in AVI format, then scan with Vdub for junk frames, then use TMPGEnc on this now perfect AVI, convert to Mpeg 1, now split this file into 2, there should be no problems.

Proving that TMPGEnc can split/merge with no problems, will prove the mpeg capture is no good.

It all depends on whether he is trying to cut Mpeg-2 or Mpeg-1. Mpeg-1 (like AVIs) are easy to cut in TMPGenc. It's Mpeg-2's that are hard to cut. I've found TMPGenc to be bad for that, usually unsyncing all my caps (I use an ADS Instant DVD to cap in Mpeg-2 704*480 5MB/s CBR 224 Kb/s audio with no frame drops). Still looking for a good Mpeg-2 cutter. Know of any? I have Ulead Video Studio 5 and 6, among others like TMPGenc...

  4. I will try that. I have been capturing direct to MPEG 1 with the ATI MMC 7.1 TV program.
