Hey all, first post here and I have an interesting issue for all you experts. Sorry but this is going to be a long one.
I am using DVD2SVCD with CCE to create a copy of one of my hour long show DVDs. Generally, everything goes smooth as silk, however I have an issue with a single frame on one episode...
To see the frame causing the issue, please go here:
http://www.gsinet.net/~mwardman/bad-frame.gif
Basically, when CCE hits this frame (#396), it chokes when using 4 pass multipass. Here is what I did to solve the issue:
1) DVD2SVCD until CCE crash
2) Manually edit CCE ecl file and encode frames 0 - 395
3) Manually edit CCE ecl file and encode frame 396 with CBR (constant bit rate) this worked fine
4) Manually edit CCE ecl file and encode frame 397 - last frame.
5) Stitch the 3 mpv files together with Filemerging app
So, now I have a complete mpv file and all needed audio files and I need to run Pulldown and bbMPEG but I have no clue how to do this manually. Can anyone point me in the right direction?
Thanks all, really appreciate your time.

it's a good, easy to use GUI for pulldown.
then, follow this guide for BBMPG:
http://www.vcdhelp.com/bbmpegedit.htm
nothing to it...you'll be happy with the resultswhat are you askin' me for...

Pulldown is simple, here is an example for NTSC 24fps
pulldown c:\mymovie\sample.mpv c:\mymovie\pulldown.mpv
syntax:
pulldown <source file with directory> <target file with directory>
For bbmepg, it has a GUI even though it looks like a dos exe file.
open Runbbmpeg.exe
click settings
click the "input and output file" tab
click "open PS" - this will be the name of the finished file(s)
click "open VS" - this is the mpv file you made with pulldown
click "open AS 1" - this is the mp2 file, the audio file.
you dont need to pick "open AS 2" unless you have a multichannel audio SVCD.
click the "Program stream settings"
click the "SVCD" bullet
Under "startup delays(ms)", put a 2 in the "pack:" box.
note: leave the mux rate value as it is, if BBmpeg gives a PTS/DTS flow warning, then you must raise this value. I have made SVCDs with PTS/DTS problems and had them play with no problems before
click the "general settings" tab
click "use floating point"
leave the "start second" as 0. Type in the total seconds in the "end second" box. note DVD2SVCD will tell you the length of the movie when you click the CD under conversion - convert that into seconds and put it in "end seconds" box.
Now if your burning on 80min CDs, type 795 in the "max size (MB)" box and click "OK". Now click start. NOTE: Watch out for the PTS/DTS warning.
I'm not an expert with bbmpeg, but I'ved used it quite a bit.
hope that helps -
I looked at the guide that Fantomlord provided the link for. I'm not sure why it suggests 740megs for the file size? A 795meg file just fits nicely into a 79:97 CD without overburning. Don't worry if the 795meg file is reported by windows as 813+megs - its not really that size when burned to a CD.

Both 795 AND 814 are true, accurate filesizes, you are seeing the rounding error - 795 * 1024 = 814.
In bbMpeg, you don't need to mess with the seconds unless you are splitting the movie based on time. I alway split using megabytes, 796 works in my burner and player
