I'm curious how much dvd quality video I can squeeze on a dvd-r. at what point when using rempeg to lower bitrate does the video stop being near dvd quailty. Meaning how many hours/minutes can I squeeze on a dvd-r before the video isn't worth bothering with? I hope this makes sense. The reason I'm asking is I have a movie that is 2 1/2 hours long and I want to make a backup. but I don't want to waste a dvd-r disc or the time doing it, if the quality is going to suck.
Thanks

use dvd encrypter and ulead movie factory to copy dvd to dvd 1 to 1 copy faster and eaiser . none of that hassle you are going through and its looks exactly like the dvd . use decrypt to copy iso and burn with movie factory

What encrypter are you talking about? Are you talking about Smartripper? If so, do you extract the entire cd? How do I do a 1 to 1 copy with movie factory? I have the program, but I've never really used it. I generally use dvdit PE for authoring or Spruce UP. What all do I need to do to use Movie Factory to do a 1 to 1 copy? Is the video quality pretty close to dvd? Will it play in a stand alone dvd player? Lastly, do you get to keep the ac3 5.1 audio? Thanks for the reply.

http://dawnload.net/video_software/dvd_rippers/dvd_decrypter.cfm this is the site for decypter . go to mode then iso then read and then put in dvd and press the dvd picture and it does the rest . takes about 30 min. to copy to harddrive. once done go to movie factory and select burn images ,click on open then select the movie. select speed and then hit record takes about 30 min . the movie is exactly the same as the original and sometimes clearer.

I have two questions for guys. First using the decrypt and using dvd workshop method to burn the dvd, is everything on the dvd copied (menus, subs, extras) or just the movie? Will the movie keep the aspect ratio and ac3 5.1 surround sound? It seems that at converting a 7Gig disc to a 4.7 you are loosing a significant amount of bitrates, is it extremely noticeable?
In regards to the kvcd template, which one of the templates does this? On the left side of the site, a few different versions of this template is listed. Lastly, how is the video quality? Can you keep the ac3 5.1 or just stero ac3? I would think it would be possible to keep 5.1 if you used something like Spruce UP or DVD Maestro.
Thanks for the help.

most movies will fit on 4.7gb, the reason they are 7 plus gigs has to do with the extra sound tracks, subtitles, deleted movies scenes ect.. et all.
you can either rip the movie and then run it through IFO edit to strip out uneeded stuff, or frameserve and re encode in TMPEGEnc.
