How are you capturing the VHS tape? What type of compression are you using if any?

There are about a billion recent posts out about that very same thing (VHS to VCD). I have been at it from the days of the 486, using zipshot to pull in video. If you get into this 4 days will seem like nothing...OK, now on to something more useful.
1. Forget about vcd. SVCD is the only way (except for DVD or XSVCD) to get a decent picture.
2. At the very least you are going to want 480x480(if you are on NTSC) (start at a higher resolution than that and a higher bit rate and scale down from there to SVCD)
3. Don't use nero's codec to convert.
4. DON'T TAKE ANY SHORTCUTS!!!!!!
5. Be prepared to become absorbed in this hobby (it is 4am where I am and I am up converting a video to SVCD).
6. Read EVERYTHING you can about video editing making.
7. Don't believe everything you hear/read
8. Get an EXACT meaning for "almost perfect", "oh, its S-VHS" or you will be dissappointed with your lastest coaster
9. When you get too pissed off at the whole thing, its too late. you are going to be up at 4:00am writing to someone else trying to give them advice... -
oh yea. I have the ATI All in wonder card too, a 1.2 gig system with a 40 gig hard drive.
