I don't know about importing because i think TIVO uses a proprietary coding system, but all i do is run some S-video or coax to the capture card and hit record. Any quality loss is negligible (as long as your cables are good) ties up the TIVO player though If you're really keen there are sites on the web that's ll show you how to crack open your TIVO (void the warranty) and modify its guts. Girlfriend would shoot me dead if I tried this however

  3. The TIVO uses a standard MPEG2 format with a nonstandard header. Since the unit uses proprietary Linux, it would be tough to get it to interface on a file transfer level with a PC running Windows. As far as I know, it doesn't have the capability to network either. Once you pull a drive from a TIVO (for a direct copy in a Linux machine) the TIVO won't accept it back and that's that for your TIVO.

  4. Facts about TIVO:

    - Harddrives can be safely replaced, removed and added.
    - A network card (wired or wireless) can be added to it.
    - The MPEG2 files can be extracted.
    - Once on your PC, tivo's MPEG2 files can be converted to any format you like.
    - A web server can be run on it to access all TIVO functions remotely

I do not own a TIVO, but in my research of what parts to buy to build my own PVR,
I have researched TIVO as well. These are the things that I have run accross and
have verified to be true (thru some friends who actually have TIVOs).

There are detailed guides on how to achieve all these TIVO modifications.
Do a search on google for tivo hack or something like that...

  5. Hey everyone,

I have a TiVo and I do what you guys are talking about. You can pull a MPG from TiVo TyStream, but it does not play directly in any player but PowerDVD. The best place to get info at is http://www.dealdatabase.com.
