I'd like to backup some of my DVD's to SVCD or DivX format and have successfully done this using the various software tools - and lots of good advice from this site!
The only problem is that encoding takes such a very long time.
If I purchased a capture card (I was considering the Dazzle Digital Video Creator II) could I copy my DVD'S to SVCD/DivX in realtime, and would there be much of a quality loss when compared to Ripping and using Tmpgnc etc.
If anyone is familiar with the Dazzle DVCII, would I need to use a separate DVD player to capture a DVD, or could I play and capture the DVD on the PC at the same time?
Many thanks for your help...

I think it will always be better to convert than to capture RT. There are probably professional products that can do it as well though. Another board member found this site about Encoding vs. RT: http://www.tecoltd.com/enctest/enctest.htm
