  1. I have tried to follow the step by step to back up my Harry Potter DVD as outlined at VCDHelp.

I have ripped the DVD with Smart Ripper which produced separate .m2v and .ac3 file.

I have ReMPeg the .m2v file down to size.

Open DVD-It and add the .m2v and .ac3 file and play. The audio is off by a good 3-5 seconds.

    Have I missed something?

Also, when I go to create the folder with the DVD, DVD-It states that it can only handle 2-channel AC3 and my AC3 is 5.1 with too many audio channels. Can anyone suggest a program that can burn the full audio AC3 and video?

I've now tried ripping the 2 channel AC3 but it ends up with 0 bytes. Is there a program that can convert my 5.1 channel AC3 to 2 ch stereo AC3?

    Help!

  4. SpruceUp lets you use the 5.1 ac3 without any problem, as it doesn't reencode at all any stream.

If you have authored all the way througn dvdit and dont wanna reauthor in another program, then use Headac3he to convert your ac3 to wav at 48000 Hz, 16 bit stereo. Then import that wav into dvdit and put it in place of your ac3.

    That's it!

If DVDit states "bitrate too high to multiplex", look for ac3enc on the net. Encode your wav to ac3 again (with 2 channels only) an have a nice burn!

    Thanks apollo and pacoreguenga!

SpruceUp did the trick quite nicely. Now I have a new problem.

The DVD works on my computer and in my PS2 and XBox, but not on my standalone DVD players:

JVC XV-721BK (the black version of the XV-723GD) or
    Toshiba SD3109

Is it time to upgrade DVD players?

    Help again,

  6. The audio and video will almost ALWAYS be out of sync in the preview mode on DVDit!, It's a known problem and discussed on the DVDit! forum. When you actually burn the DVD the audio is in sync.

If your really scared of what the result will be, burn it on a RW disc first and play it back, or use your computer DVD-Player program and play back the VOB files that DVDit makes.

I burn concerts and when I watch the DVDit preview the audio is often up to 10 full seconds off the video at the end of the concert.
However when I burn the DVD it's fine.

    Barney.

I'm also using DVDit! PE Version 2.5
All of my video is encoded either with TMPGEnc or with Vegas Video3
I let DVDit encode the AC3 sound for me.
Ok Ok Ok, I know I'm not as smart as all of you. But look how much smarter I make you look!
