DVD Player Not Playing VCD Anymore

My Apex AD-703 DVD player is starting to do some funny things, and I wanted to see if anyone else has ran into this problem before, and what they did to correct it.
My DVD player could play ANY type of VCD (store bought or home made). Recently, it has started to NOT play any VCD, but it will still play my DVD's just fine.
Has anyone else had this type of problem (doesn't have to be with Apex AD-703, but it would help), and what have you done to resolve this problem?
I have a lot of VCD's, and I would hate to have to go and buy another player, especially since this one is a 3-disk changer.

Say, if I reinstall my factory firmware (which was never changed. I have never hacked the original firmware before.), does anyone think this might help my problem?

One more thing I would like to add that I just found out this morning. I tried placing a copied music CD and a regular music CD, and neither of them worked. It doesn't look like any form of CD/VCD will work. Only DVD's seem to work. Any ideas?
