can I encode several movies at the same time using TMPGEnc on the same machine? Are there any issues I should be aware of (apart from machine performance)?
Thanks.

Yes, I have done it a few times. Some peaple have said you get a performance boost doing this (ie two fines encode faster than if you so them sequentially). I haven't found this, BUT it is useful when encoding a long program and then you wish to do a smaller one for some reason.
PS I have noticed that running VirtualDub simultaneously really affects TMPGEnc (even lowering priority) -
I say having two TMPG windows is faster than one running a batch of two. If you look at your Performance under Task Manager you will see that your computer is not running at 100% all the time. I see my CPU Usage bouncing from around 55% to 100% - even if I set priority to high. I think it's higher when encoding mpeg-2s.
Run another copy of TMPG and set it to Idle only just to keep the computer running with whatever power is left and while you set up another single or batch encoding.
