  1. ok i got a problem, well, someone i know does. he has a dell optiplex 4000 series (p3 800, 512mb ram, 50gb hdd space, 32mb gforce2) and bought it about 1.5 yrs ago with winme on it. Since then he has upgraded it with a pioneer dvdrom 106 and winxp. the dvd rom worked fine and using smartripper he had no prbs in winme. But ever since he upgraded to winxp, the dvd rom stopped ripping. In smartripper the error says "cannot read dvd structure". It does it for any movie put into the drive. ive tried swaping the drive into another computer to see if it does the same thing and it doesnt. I even tried putting my dvd rom (which, by the way, is the same brand and model) in there and it does the same thing, but it doesnt do it on my computer. i have trouble getting it to copy a cd using a burning program, the error there is usually "cannot read from source" or something similar. Ive even tried aspi updater and force aspi even. Worked fine in winme but not on winxp. Anybody got any ideas? Also, he wants to buy a new dvd rom drive for his computer since he cant use that one, he doesnt want to go with the pioneer 106 because of the compatibility issues it apparently has. Anybody got any suggestions as to a brand and model he should go with? Unless someone comes up with a solution or an explaination to this anomally.

Sorry if I'm too late. But, I have a 106 and XP and it works fine (slow, but fine). Keep checking, I can't help you other than to say that there isn't a hardware compatibility prob (at least, not with your DVD and OS).

  3. yea its ok...i fixed it. it was the way the ide cables where arranged between the dvd player and the burner. had to switch the slave/master config and then it worked fine. apparently the burner had issues being slave. :P
