That depends on what CPU you are using and what RAM.

Intel with RDRAM, it got to be intel.
    Intel with DDR, SIS
AMD with DDR, VIA or SIS they perform just as good.

    my opinion only

  7. VIA is not beautiful, AMD ATHLON XP IS!!!!!!

I have a Athlon XP 1700+ @ 1800+ with 256 Mb RAM PC133 and I KICKED a P4 1.7 MHz 256 Mb DDR when converting DVD -> SVCD (backup) with same setting, same movie!

PS: VIA helps of course! 8)

  9. For encoding I don't think there is a problem...

For capture some device makers say don't use VIA boards

I have used VIA chipsets since the FIC VA503+ and have never had a single prob with their chipsets. I now use a FIC AD11 with a AMD 761 north bridge and a VIA VT686B I/O controller, Athlon XP 1700+, 256 MB DDR 2100 and it rocks. I rip, convert, remux or what have you with 98% success rate. I really recommend VIA

Those are my specs in my "Computer Details" tab. It's not a VIA chipset. It's a ALi MAGiK1 chipset. There all good chipsets as far as I know.

  13. As long as you get a recent VIA chipset (e.g., KT266a), running the latest MoBo bios, and you download and install the latest (1)VIA Busmaster Filter Driver (from 4 in 1 drivers) and (2)VIA Busmaster Miniport driver, your MoBo should run pretty darn stable.

VIA Busmaster Filter Driver (from 4 in 1 drivers):

    VIA Busmaster Miniport driver:

    Comment:
When you start adding additional components (e.g., capture cards, multi-purpose video cards, etc.), the potential for problems will most likely increase. But this affects AMD as well as Intel MoBos, Via as well as other chipsets.

    Practical Tip:
Generally, newer drivers are more stable and yield faster system performance. But if you experience no problems with your hardware and drivers, don't upgrade to newer drivers.
