  2. Maybe your computer sucks hard...
Or perhaps you could write something better?

  4. It actually doesn't suck. It's the most user friendly converting program I've found. It's straight forward. But here's a link any way for older versions:

If you still think it sucks after trying older versions then it's actually your computer that sucks.

No, it definitely just is his compuuter that sucks, since it is freezing in Internet Explorer while he's downloading it. But even then, it probably isn't his PC that sucks, but his hardware config and Microsoft's Software on it. TMPGEnc is fine, though, I can assure you that. That's quality software that is untainted by a huge corporation's greed and lack of testing and all of that.

As you might have noticed, this is a very popular
program. Most of us find it to be very useful indeed.
Haven't tried the latest version myself.

The only place I know for earlier versions is a site in
    spain-- http://www.vcdsp.com

They keep an archive of all the old versions since 12a.
The tmpg versions they have their is in english, but
you may have to brush up on your spanish to navigate
the site. If you can't find it there, do what the rest of the
world does-- go to ww.google.com and search for it!

If you still can't find it, try bbmpeg. It's also free, it's
faster than tmpg in many cases, but it's quality is
generally accepted to be less than tmpg.

You might want to try Nero 5.5.

Thier MPG to VCD convert is (IMHO) about the same. I'm awaiting their AVI to VCD plugin... (should be out very soon).

TMPGenc is the best encoder I've ever seen.
But you said the problem was there while downloading, well check you internet settings, instead of talking bad about TMPGenc!!

I think his comment is bogus. However... I'd like to make one...

Have they actually improved the encoding of either MPEG-1 or MPEG-2 since the original BETA?

I do VBR MPEG-1's, I still get lots of blocks, etc on some movies... I'm on 12e now, but it's no better than 12a or BETA 12?

I wouldn't say it "sucks" (after all, I do like the program), but have there really been any improvements in the last year? Or just fixing bugs?

I'd be interested in what someone using 12i has to say (I'm not ready to deviate to a new prog until I hear about improvements)

I just always update to the latest and greatest version of everything I have installed as soon as updates come out. To tell you the truth, TMPGEnc 12i is the same program that 12 was, except without all of those bugs it had. Quality wouldn't really change, since it already is very nice. The blockiness is due to people's settings, the nature of VCD 2.0, and source footage, not TMPGEnc.

Question: How many of you are going to buy Tsunami MPEG Encoder Professional when it comes out? I certainly will.

  14. Well if the quality of MPEG2 encoding is greatly improved, GREATLY improved, then yes, hell, I'd buy it.

But as for now, it doesn't look like they can do anything to improve the MPEG2 quality any more because it hasn't changed (for the better) since beta 12.

Then why are there NO blocks on a Cinemacraft Encoder's output MPEG-1 VBR? I used exact same bitrate settings, FEWER filers, but 3-pass instead of 2.

    Just posing a question here...

Actually, I've not yet suceeded in making a CCE-encoded video mux properly to VCD... but the video is far and away better!

So, I guess TMPGEnc for now... would be nice if they added "multipass" instead of just 2-pass encoding... Even if it ends up slow, they should add it.

  16. the umm price difference between tmpeg and cinemacraft err makes tmpeg still a godsend though. Lets not forget how grateful we all are to have it. Its great to get constructive feedback in regards to the software and improvements negotiated, but I cant help but feel grateful that we have it as freeware in the first place. besides there are little substitutes on the market that are remotely comparable to it. My 2 cents

  17. well, this might as well get my input..
the TMPGE encoder is the best one that I have ever used!!!
and its free! I have tried over 20 of them and this one rules!
I congratulate and worship the people that are into this project and keep developing the technology and offering it to us for Free..I'm a college kid and I cant afford alot..
and for me to be able to encode avi to mpeg to burn and watch on my standalone DVD player is incredible! hats off to the makers of TMPGE keep up the good work! you're awesome! my computer is an AMD-k62 and it never freezes using any of the versions.
    thanks

  18. I must admit that Tmpgenc, despite having a hard time typing and saying the name, is a good program. So far it's the only one that hasn't given me headaches. So until I figure out CCE...if ever....tmpgence is my default encoder.

  20. just feel I have to chip in and express my admiration to whoever wrote TMPGEnd!!! I do have one constructive critisism: change the name to something that has one or 2 more vowels.....
Seriously though, I have converted about 17 DivX/AVi movies using TMP and not a single one failed. It is very fas with max encoding time I encountered of 5 hours tops for 2h30 movie. As far as the quality is converned, again, this all depends on the actual source and as TMP will convert/ compress/ whatever, any low quality file WILL be worse that the source itself (poeple always seem to forget that one, as if they expect to put bronze in a filter and it would come out gold!!).
Anyway, on the Blocks thing: played DivX/AVI on TV (TV out) and I see the blocks every now and then. When converting to VCD using TMP, burn the CD, play it on my super Philips 612, I have so far NEVER noticed any blocks whatsover. I can fast forward, etc... and in all honesty there is not much difference with the actual DVD!!
    That is all...
