I brought a DMR-10S 2 years ago had several Loading Bugs Problems that they fix because it was still under warranty. Finally after 2 years the Loading Bug appear again, call for service to see if they would fix the Loading Bug they said it was out of warranty. So I stated I would paid to get it fix but they must once and for all or be liable for new warranty. They said we don't fix that unit anymore. jvc sucks and I hope they lose all there good customer suck < suck I will switch to a better company....

  2. A new or slightly used DVD recorder will be way cheaper than fixing the JVC anyway.

  3. The bad news is, JVC indeed "sucks": great products that unfortunately self-destruct for many owners. The good news is, you can now pick up a more reliable unit from a different make, perhaps with more useful features. If JVC had actually agreed to your terms, they would likely have charged you in excess of $100 anyway, the going rate for DVD recorder repair seems to be $130 at all mfr service depots. Now, you can put that toward the $170 cost of a similar non-HDD machine from Panasonic or Toshiba, $270 will get you the Phillips 3576 with HDD, or $300 can get you a Canadian Pioneer 450 with HDD. Of these I would take the Phillips or a Pioneer, the HDD feature rocks and the machines have a somewhat better reliability record than the current Panasonic and Toshiba DVD-only recorders. Tho ANY of these would leave a JVC in the dust: when JVCs work, they're amazing, but they are buggy beyond belief. I unplug my own JVC DR-MV5 recorder whenever I don't actually intend to use it for awhile, otherwise it spontaneously turns itself on and crashes randomly every few weeks.

And you would have gotten the same response from most other companies as well. Quite often when a unit is end of life they won't repair it even if it is under warranty, they will simply replace it. Electronics are considered disposable nowadays anyway. It is almost always cheaper to replace then repair.

I stay away from JVC. I bought a $700 S-VHS deck years ago and had it in for repairs twice and then got got rid of it. Panasonic, Sony and JVC were "the" names in S-VHS camcorders and editing decks years ago. JVC was always considerably less expensive to buy. If Panasonic and Sony were getting $8,000 for a camcorder than JVC's model went for $5,000. If the JVC worked and kept working it was a good deal, but the JVC could got out at any time and you were out all you money. I don't buy JVC. Too many horror stories.

Of course this is two different topics. I took this thread as warranty/service support. Others are reporting bad experiences. I have had similiar experiences with Sony products (which are never on the low end of the price scale). As for JVC, I have a 5 year old DVD player that gets daily usage by the kids in the family room and a 8 year old Super VHS-ET deck that still works just fine.
