  1. this may sound simple but how do I change a file.wav to filw.ac3 (changing the file extension) When I right click on a file to rename it I can only rename the file name not the extension. How can I change the file extension?

Don't we all wish changing a wav file to Dolby Digital was as simple as renaming the file extension?!

go to a command prompt, and in the directory where the file resides type:
    rename blahblah.wav blahblah.ac3
that's all there is to it.

  4. well, I've read many posts that say to "save to wav" the direct stream copy (using virtual dub) and after the audio has been extracted to rename the "extractedaudio.wav" to "extractedaudio.ac3"
I can't figure out how to do this.

  5. thanks fantomlord. I am not that good "That's all there is to it"?? I went to a command prompt (by this I think you mean a dosprompt right?) I typed in the command dir and all of the directories on the computer flashed on the screen so fast before I could even read any of them. I don't know anything about command lines Do you have the time top please explain further on how to change a file extension.

well the down and dirty solution is to change folder options. goto my computer, view.....folder options....second tab(view again). The 7 line down says hide file extentions for known file types. turn this off and hit apply. now you can goto your file and rename it inside of winders.
