Hey!!!
I had a video file with "flv" extension.
and I had no codec pack earlier also.
For some purpose of converting it (which I didn't)... I changed its extension to "wmv"...
then accidentally I wrote that file to a DVD.
Now I have a codec Pack (k-lite latest)
which is showing thumbnails for both "flv" and "wmv".
But not for that file...or because its conflicting with the change in extension
Is there any way I can get its thumbnail.![]()

Assuming you are talking about thumbnails in something like Explorer, you must be getting some sort of graphic whether it's an icon or thumbnail. If the thumbnail is black, it just means the first frame is black. I guess if the first frame is white it may appear as blank on the white background.
Windows (Explorer) does not care what the file type is, only what the extension is. Whatever the extension, it will give the appropriate icon. If you give a jpg a wmv extension, the icon will be the default for a wmv. If you get no icon or thumbnail, the extension is not being seen. Are you sure the filename has the . between extension and filename? -

But I suppose you didn't understood what I said.
the Vista Explorer is giving no thumbnail for that file
but for every other file, including all extensions.
There's no black or white thumbnail, I knew about all these things. 8)
but the point is, why the hell there's no thumbnail for that file
and thumbnails for every other file on my system.
plz relpy.. -
If it is a flv file, and you now have it renamed to a wmv file, then Explorer is trying to use the wmv codec to create a thumbnail. Rename the file back to flv and see what happens.

Just changing the extension of a file does not make it a different format
I'm not going to even bother going into the evils of using a "codec pack" -

Thnkx... Krispy Kritter
But I can't change the extension now.
Its written into a DVD now.
and I don't think there's any other way. -

Thnkx... Noahtuck...
"Just changing the extension of a file does not make it a different format"
That's very right.
But how to deal with the "evils of using a codec pack" 8)
coz its not giving me the thumbnail for that particular file
and for every other file..
plz reply.. -
This might be a longshot...
Copy it back to the computer, rename the extension back to .flv
Burn the file with the .flv extension back onto a disk.

Its not a thumbnail view type of icon.
Its a file icon, a truly recognized file icon as "WMV".
Now what to do.. -
I think everything has been said by the various contributors. The file on dvd will always have the wmv icon. You should be able to copy back to the pc, rename it with flv extension and put on another dvd if you so wish. That's about it. What are you expecting/hoping to be able to do other than that?

I can do that, copy to HD and change the
extension and see what happens.
That's OK
but what to do if I want the thumbnail
on the DVD itself.
Now I'm getting a feeling that its not possible. -

It is not possible to do anything about the dvd you have already burned. If you can't live with the bad extension, make another dvd from the first replacing the file with a properly named version. 50 cents a blank!! It's a no-brainer.

Nice one.... Starman*
Thnkx.
I hope that's the only solution left
for this problem. -
That's been the only solution all along

Thnkx everyone for ur answers.
No doubt u people provided some possible solutions
But still the answers weren't satisfactory(for me)
Is this problem can be solved via some registry changes
As we usually see, that the thumbnail issues
are handled via registry changes.

You CANNOT fix the problem with the current DVD. Explorer cannot create an icon for a file when you changed it to the wrong extension.
As noted above, you can make a new DVD with the files CORRECTLY named. Aside from that, you are SOL.Google is your Friend
