    The highest quality free ac3 decoder is azid. Your can get azid, a gui for it, and a guide on how to use it at www.doom9.net.

    Use DVDx, you can select to convert the AC3 stream to WAV, and skip the video stream, so you only end up with a large WAV file. (assuming you want the AC3 stream from a DVD)

    A really useful tool to have is HeadAC3he. it will do this, and much more. A must-have IMO. http://darkav.de.vu 8)

    Probably what adam had in mind, because it uses azid.
