  1. I hope I am posting in the right forum now

I've incurred in something a bit peculiar.

acting according to the "DivX to Mpg" guide found on this great site,
I started VitualDub in order to extract the audio from a DivX movie
but apparently it has been coded with "5 Channels Audio", or at least
that is what VirtualDub says. So it complains that it does not know what to do with the file(?).

If I try to watch the movie with Media Player, it first tries to dl some codecs, fails to do so, and plays the movie without any sound.

Now I'm wondering if anyone has heard of anything like this.
Also it would be nice to know if there might be some other program that
I could try to extract the audio track with.

Thanks in advance for all and any replies.

    The Larch.

  2. Sounds like you Dixv file was mastered with the original DTS or Dolby sound stream. If you want to watch the file then use a DVD player like PowerDVD. If you want to extract the audio then I would recommend a tool capable of decoding AC3 like 'TooLame', 'BeSweet' or 'Azid'. Please note that these are command line tools that require a seperate interface if you need a GUI. Follow the link on the left for 'Tools' or goto Doom9.org and visit the downloads section.

    Hope this helps,

  3. Thanks för the tips, mate.

But none of those programs accept a DivX.avi file as imput for audio extraction. Or am I just being stupid?

    Thankful for your reply (again),

    The Larch

  4. You will need to use VirtualDub to extract the audo first. Set the audio to directr stream copy, and then select Save to wav.
Once you have the wav file rename it to .ac3 and then use something like HeadAc3e to convert it to a wav file that will be playable.

    Cheers

  5. Its probably Dolby surround...Only I could hear the audio in WMP..

I found the solution in giving the 'Directshow Multimedia File reader" in TMPGenc. a higher priority (1)...then I could encode to (s)vcd cause after that change TMPGenc. loads the audiofile too when I load the divx
