I just used DVD Smart Ripper and ripped Training Day.. A 120 min DVD movie.

I inserted a blank DVD-R into my Pioneer A04 drive, copied the ripped files into the Video_ts folder (created by Nero 5.5.8.2 DVD Video template) and I can't burn the thing because it's over 7 GIGS.

I tried burning only part of the files onto a cd thinking it was going to have to be a 2 vol. deal, but that won't work either because it seems to depend on the other files to to burn.

It runs fine from a temp directory on my HD but how do I burn this thing to DVD properly.

Yes, It's my 1st attempt but please tell me how to do this...

Thanks for any useful advice ....

  2. ok, ill try not being rude..... but see to the left, theres a 'how' to section. Try clicking the DVD RIP one and read the how-to's. You must encode the video. Simply copying the vob's will definately not work.

Thank you for not being RUDE.

I did read and I did use the information on ripping one. It's just that the ripped file is so damn big it won't fit onto a DVDRW. I'm using RW because I know I have a learning curve to contend with. I would like to rip the thing and keep the full video quality. I don't mind using more than one DVD for that purpose, I just don't understand how to accomplish the task. Perhaps I'm just a dmub ass that needs a little more detailed instruction. I've had a DVD burner for all of 1 day now.

If I use a compression program, will I lose video/audio quality? This is what I want to avoid.

Point me in the right direction and I would be ever so greatful!

  4. This is a dual-layer issue (also, be careful with those typos, in your original post you said you tried to copy to a CD-RW, which is a BIG difference). ReMPEG is the most popular tool for DVD transcodes, and I think there's also a DVD-to-DVD how-to as well.

You're right about the typo, thanks. I'm on heavy pain killers for my back and the wonderful sleep enhancing liquid called vodka just so I can get some rest. Sorry about that. I did mean DVD-R.

I was hoping there were some unneeded files I could rip out of the sucker and still get the basic movie to run. I have it on 2 (poor quality) VCD's. I just wanted to get a high quality DVD-R but I guess that's not going to be possible without losing original crispnsess...

BTW I just just had a look at the tools (software download) link and couldn't find anything about ReMPEG. Where can I find that? I'll look for t the DVD to DVD thing tonight after I get home from work.

    Thanks for your help... 8)

  6. Don't let your spirits get down too much, it will still look very good even if you have to reencode it to fit it on a 4.3GB disc. I can assure you it will look far better than those VCDs.

As for ReMPEG, try www.doom9.org if you can't find it here.

  7. Oh! See, in your first post, you said "inserted a CDRW" not DVDRW (or whatever youre using.) I have no experience in dvd burning, so i wouldn't have answered

  8. Just follow the IFOEdit guides by Derrow from the "DVD RIPs how to" link to the left.

Follow the "split to 2 DVD-R" method and you'll end up with two 4.3GB discs that contain the whole movie with extras.

Read the guides a few times and follow the steps closely.
