Burning .avi files onto VCDs using Nero 5.5.5.3

Hi,
I'm trying to burn a VCD using Nero 5.5.5.3. I have an .avi file of the correct size and I assume that I do not need to convert this as it says that .avi files are ok. I go to 'Write CD' on the file menu and it starts the normal dialogue box after I have entered the burn speed. In the dialogue box it finishes really quickly and does not come up with the usual 'Burn procees succesfully completed at 12x) It gives the normal options of saving, printing and discarding but it has written nothing onto the CD-R. It does not say there is any particular error but it has definately not written it. I have burned many audio CDs using the exact same software and hardware as I am using to burn VCDs. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. Can someone please help me? Thanks in advance.

You need to convert the file to a VCD or SVCD compliant file. See under CONVERT to the left if for some reason Nero is not Encoding it. I would recommend TMPG Encoder over the Nero encoder.
