I just bought a Hauppauge WinTV PCI a week ago and was discussing it with the sales dude at my local CompUSA. I told him I liked the card but wanted scheduling for watching and recording. I told him that I really wanted the Hauppauge WinTV PVR but couldn't aford it. He told me there was not difference in the cards only the software and card bios made them different. He said I can use the PVR software for scheduling, recording, compression, etc. with my WinTV PCI card.
Does anyone know if there is any truth to this?

Hey, I just got the Hauppauge WinTV dbx FM card and haven't tried doing this yet but the Hauppauge website has the following programs that may help:
WinTV Recorder
TV Scheduler
I'm not sure if the "TV Sceduler" will work for recording on a non-PVR model but you can try.
Check out their software updates site to get these apps:

NOTE: You will need a 500MHz or better machine to use the WinTV Recorder
