    Hi,

So I started a thread here on capturing DV and have now captured the DV and I am now in the process of de-interlacing, de-noising and change resolution to 768 x 576 and saving as AVI using Huffyuv and pixel format YUYV.

What I need to do now is join all the re-encoded .avi clips together and exporting the finished .avi file to mp4 in order to save to PC, or maybe DVD later on.

What free editing software should I use for this? One of these?

    Any help would be great.

Since there is probably a few thousand free avi to mp4 converters it is difficult to pick an program but this one 'SuperSimple Video Converter v.2015' can convert videos pretty good and have an option to easily put all added clips into one! it seem to perform at its best on WebM Video as it have some more features for this format, but it is functioning with MP4 allso! I havent combined 2 clips into 1 so if the function is any good i dont know, but it convert videos in batch mode pretty good and the function to combine all videos is easily accessed! Maybe CDBurnerXP can help with the burn to DVD part!

Edit: It can allso convert videos for DVD (PAL/NTSC).

As for the de-interlace the most video players offer theese functions during the playback!

Edit 2: And allso the resolution as you want it on 768x576 can be added as an output option allso! If you want to get theese tasks done you might want to check in on Video Converters and not editors as i belive they tend to offer some other functions and features!

If you want some de-noising effect maybe the DivX Player can help with the built in Direct3D rendering, seem to give basicly same effect!

Depends on how deep you want to go. If it is a straight "join 'em up" job, then AVIDemux has an "append" function, as does, Virtual Dub2 (although I see there is a bug record for that feature; I don't know what the actual issue is).

Essentially, "appending" means you open the first file, then choose "append" and select the next file and so on. You'll have to experiment to work out exactly how to.

The next level is a full-blown Non-Linear Editor like Shotcut, where you import (or drag-drop) each file onto the timeline, re-order them by dragging, add the bells and whistles (titles, transitions, extra audio, colour adjusting, reframing/cropping) and then export in your desired format. Another free one mentioned is Davinci Resolve. Advice-Waiver: I don't use either; I use Magix Movie Studio (paid). Unfortunately it has a bug processing analogue AVIs, so I export mine as 768x576 not 720x576. Apart from that, it's good. It will also do DVDs.

Choices choices choices! Hopefully others will chip in with ideas for free programs.

On the DVD point, if you intend doing DVDs, it would be wise to just keep your processed lossless AVIs so there's only one step to MPEG 2 (the DVD format). If you export your AVIs to MP4, then to MPEG 2/DVD later, you may cop a slight quality loss.
