I need a 2nd-hand camcorder to rip my old Sony V8 tapes (PAL system) to Linux computer. My Sony PAL Handycam has been broken download for several years.

There are following types camcorder:
V8/Hi8 PAL camcorder
D8 PAL camcorder (some model able playing V8 tape)

Which of them will have a better result on the quality of ripped video?

Is there any way checking the magnet heads which are the key component governing the quality of the ripped video?
