    Hello.
I hope you can help me.
I have a lot of old VHS tapes I need to digitize. What is the best, and preferably the most expensive, USB device to do this with? I have tried 3 different ones now, all with bad results. The first 2 are "cheap ones". They record fine, but with a very low bitrate, and with framerate and audio out of sync, here and there. Looks very pixelated on a 55" screen. Not good with today's big screens.
The 3rd is a Hauppauge USB-live2. It has an acceptable bitrate, which is somewhat higher. But it makes some strange streaks from the old tapes. Green and yellow noise streaks across most of the screen. My vcr is not the problem. There must be something wrong with the Hauppauge unit. Maybe it is too delicate?
I am about to buy myself poor in units, so if you know of a really good one, I would like to hear more. I'm on Windows 11.
    Regarding...

Being a USB-Live2 user I have not experienced the issue you describe.

Maybe you should upload a short sample for ferther analysis.

However, it appears you are capturing with the Hauppauge Capture program and direct to mpeg2 ??. Not a good idea.

And just because a device is expensive does not necc. mean it is better than others.

    May I suggest this...
    1. Get a new VHS head cleaner
    2. Get a new VHS tape. Need not be an expensive one. Only need the plastic container.

If the original tape is not yours, seek permission before you open it.
Check on youtube on how to open a VHS tape. Swap the old tape to the new container.
Clean the VHS player before and after each session.

This should minimize the noise from the VHS video output.
    Hope this can help.

    Something like this...
