Mini DV camcorder keeps freezing and stopping. Any help?

Hi all,
So today I picked up a Samsung digital cam sc-d363 that seemed to be in mint condition (The seller said only used once) This is my first camcorder and I am trying to learn it. I cannot figure out why my camcorder’s display will freeze instantly after I click record then stop recording after 7 seconds. The display works when not recording though. When I play back i can hear the audio clearly but the video is frozen as it was when recording. It had a cassette in it when I picked it up but it had no footage. After trying trying a complete new one it is doing the same. Any idea whats going on? Any amount helps! Thanks

Can you exhibit the problem in a demonstration video? From your words it appears that it has a mechanical problem, Does it stay in playback even if the tape is blank?
