got MKV file, plays perfectly on video card, nvidia 1050, i3, 8 gig ram
but the MKV file does not play at all on a core 2 duo with no video card 4 gig ram 3 ghz cpu
Question Is
if i convert MKV file so it could be used/played on core 2 duo
What would be the best format i`ve already tried mp3, mp4, mp2, and tv 720 HD
all of the above formats are still not perfect for the core 2 duo
im using VLC to convert MKV file
thank in advance

I see no reason why it may not play at all on a PC without accelerating video chipset. So what? The video could instead be decoded by the CPU. Software decoding only, no hardware acceleration. Should work on any Windows compatible PC. Provided that you installed a software video decoder which supports the original format. A current LAV Filters package should support most modern video formats. But to be sure, we may need to know what this MKV file contains. Some media players like MPC-HC bring their own copy of decoders and also help analyzing the media file (here, Shift+F10 displays a MediaInfo report).

If the video is a high def HEVC it's no surprise a Core 2 Duo can't play it without GPU hardware decoding. Even some high frame rate high def AVC might be a problem.
