If you want to send a dvd video (IFO, VOB, etc)(not retail) to someone over the internet by uploading to a host site which has a size limit per upload, is it safe to simply separate the VIDEO_TS folder into 2-3 separate smaller folders, zip them, and upload individually? So the receiver unzips and puts them all back in one VIDEO_TS folder? Or will there be problems because the files won't match perfectly later on because of the way computers store data?

That would work. The files wouldn't change. It does yield potential for user errors however.

What's easier and noteably safer is making a splitted archive using 7Zip or WinRAR. It splits the archive at whatever size you specify. No need to manually pick files and keep track of which were added to which part.
With a splitted archive, once the receiver has downloaded all parts and put them in the same folder, upon simply opening the first part in 7Zip or WinRAR, it'll behave as if the archive is one large file and extracting is as simple as usual.

Thanks for the response and explanation about archiving - sounds like that would be more foolproof. And is foolproofing the potential user error you mentioned? Someone missing a file when putting them back in the VIDEO_TS folder?

Yes, that is the potential user error I was talking about. A splitted archive is much better on both ends. Not only is it more foolproof but also less effort to get going.

I also prefer uploading smaller files in case there's upload failure (internet or pc crash), only that file needs re-upping rather than the entire thing. However, the recipient suggested the free, no-limit host site Swisstransfer, so I'm going to try that with the dvd ISO file. If that doesn't work out, I'll do the archived zip files with Wetransfer. Thanks again!
