  1. I have a problem with my VCDs playing on my hardware Sanyo 6040.

I use TMPGenc to convert (anime) AVIs to MPEG and Nero to burn them at 20x.

When playing on my DVD player, sometimes the playback will freeze for a frame or two. Everything stops, I have to press fast forward on my remote and then play again in order to skip the damaged frame(s).

Now, I know the VCD itself is good because when I play it on my computer using Sasami2k, there is absolutely no problem. Does anyone know what could be causing the problem?

    Thanks,

    Raggart

I too have a Sanyo DVD-6040, and have never experienced the problem you describe. I've created over 200 VCD's (and about 20 SVCD's) so far, and before discovering VCDEasy, I too used NERO.

What are your settings in TMPGEnc?

What resolution/framerate/compression-method is the original avi?

As for Sasami2k playing the VCD, that would be expected; software players can adapt to almost any conditions, so that's not a real good indication of the VCD's actual compatibility.

I'm using the default NTSC Film template, which is 352x240, 23.976fps, CBR 1150kbps, audio encoded as layer2 44.1khz 224kbps.

Furthermore, I'm changing the Source Aspect Ratio (in the Advanced panel of the Setting) to that of the file (usually 4:3 NTSC).

The AVI files are 512x384, 640x480 or 352x240 at 23.976fps. The audio usually is MP3 at 48khz and 128-256kbps. The coded used is almost always DivX3 or DivX4.

    Thanks for you help!

By the way, what settings are you using to create SVCDs ? I thought the 6040 did not accept SVCDs.

  4. I had the same problem on my apex. What worked for me was I encoded in 29.97 instead of 23.976. My source was 23.976 to start with.

  5. Nope, I tried changing the framerate to 29.967fps while leaving all other settings the same, to no avail.

    Any other idea, anyone?

    Raggart,

I've never bothered trying to convert DivX's so I can't help you there.

However, if your interested in making SVCD's work on the Sanyo, I'm putting together my own website with everything I've learned about it over the past while. http://hilljack.vampirez.com is the address.

It's still a work-in-progress as I'm currently playing with DeLogo working on removing TV logo's from my videos, but it has most of the info you need to make SVCD's work.
