  1. Greetings! I live in Russia and have a combo PAL/NTSC TOSHIBA V-E30 player which, as I already learned on this forum, outputs NTSC tapes in 4.43 mode but also has 3.58 mode too.

I'm recoding music video on VHS tapes and have people from all around the world who want it. For Europe I record PAL tapes, no problems. But for US fans I'm trying to record NTSC tape on the same player, using HDMI to AV converter which has NTSC / PAL option. When I record tape in NTSC mode on it, my player does it but when playing back the result, automatically sets the NTSC mode to 4.43 and plays the recording in black&white (even though input was in color!). My player also has 3.58 option available too - but switching to it is only available while playing back the tape (when recording, it automatically makes it 4.43) and results is picture jumping very hard...

So, my first question is will my recording, which is obviously NTSC 4.43 VHS play well in US? Because on my player it plays only in b&w and starts jumping hard in 3.58.

And the second, are there ways to record in 3.58 with my player? Or with any EU player or I need to find an US-origin player.

    THANK YOU for any help!

No, It will play in black and white on US VCRs unless some model for some weird reason have a NTSC 4.43 but I know the majority will have the native NTSC 3.58 only. Your only option is to get a US VCR and a step down power brick for 110V or one of those multi-system VCRs that can record native NTSC, they are usually labeled 625/525 on the front panel.
Just for the record, what you are doing is illegal unless the music videos are produced by your company or you own the right for redistribution.

Thank you for clearing up! That's was my guess but nice to hear from someone experienced.

After starting this thread I've realized that i can choose NTSC 3.58 option for the recording on my VCR before the recording starts! it somehow makes the OSD jump, yet, the recording is fine but once again in b&w... When playing it back, changing the mode to 4.43 doesn't change anything. So I'm still unsure which mode I'm actually recording and how it will act on an native US VCR but I guess that's my only option, besides getting a native player as you've said.
