  1. Greetings:

I have been burning VCDs for some time now, although my experience thus far has been limited to photo slide shows with music tracks. No problems using VCDEasy, TMPGEnc, VirtualDub, etc.

Now I'm on to movies, because my laptop does not have a DVD drive and I would like to play movies on it since I frequently travel.

I'm using DVDx to rip the discs, and I end up with a big MPG movie file. This file plays perfectly on my PC, so I split the file into two with TMPGEnc, test both files, and then use VCDEasy to create a .bin file and a cuesheet. Finally, I use Fireburner to get the stuff onto the discs.

Here's what I end up with: a VCD 2.0 disc which plays perfectly on any PC, but when I load it into my DVD player, the audio is choppy. The video is good, only the audio fouls up. My slideshow VCDs do not do this... the audio is perfect. If I did not have the success with other VCDs, I would question my methods.

Any ideas would be gladly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance!

  2. could be that your dvd player doesn't like the particular cd-r brand u r using or it could just be a random fluke w/ the cd-r u r using (happened to me couple times when i use the cheapo generic cd-rs...the dvd rip would get blocky and choppy w/ lotta jumps/skips and green blocks everywhere near the end of a cd...and only happened on my DVD player, not my PC...burned on another cd-r in the same batch and no problem on my DVD player, weird huh)

btw...the cheapo silver top generic cd-rs are basically the same as the "name brand" cd-rs u buy from retail stores ... this is because they are made in taiwan....so no matter wut brand is on the cd-r..if it's made in taiwan, it's no better than the cheapo generic brand cd-rs (only really good ones are made in japan)

  3. Actually, I have two VCDs here on the exact same type and brand of CD-R. One's fine (it has a slideshow that I produced) and the other (a DVD rip) has the audio problem I described.

I don't think it's a CD-R issue because I use these in my DVD player all the time. I've burned VCDs, audio CDs, even enhanced CDs, and they all work except this DVD rip.

    Thanks.

  4. hey, i'm not saying it's the brand of cd-r that the dvd player doesn't like..it could just be this one particular cd-r u burned...it has happened to me b4...also, how about your burning speed, burn no faster than 4x to be safe

  5. I see...

...and you're right about the burning speed. I've got a relatively slow burner, but I regularly burn no faster than 2x because it seems to be more consistent and less prone to errors.

Well, I'll give another couple of movies the old college try and see what I come up with. If I still have some problems, I'm sure you'll all be hearing from me again.

    Thanks for all the input!
