Hi guys,
Does anyone know how much time (approximately!) does it takes to edit these kind of videos:
- 60sec.; graphs + text + photos + some video
- 15 sec.; graphs + text
I’ve been editing documentaries and fiction for years, but I’ve never done those kind of videos before. I am at a new place(new country for a new start) ), doing some test videos as a part of a job interview and I have no idea if I’m doing all right or too slow… I have the feeling that it takes me too long
I’ll be grateful for any kind of info! I can link the videos, but I’m not sure if it is allowed..
Regards!
Julia

You should post a link to a sample, because it depends how complicated the edits, graphs , text are .
eg. Some types of graphs or text might be animated, 3D , with spectacular graphics and effects might take hours or days just to render a few seconds on a single computer
On the other hand , simple 2D text and graphs, might take a few minutes for the entire project to end to end.
Also how much thought/planning you have to put into it - is this planned out 100% already and you're just doing the grunt work ? or do you have to put creative effort into it ? eg. Planning alone, timing with audio might take a long time -
Thank you for your reply! It's 2D, I have to create it from scratch (I have find the photos, to make the graphic stuff, choose the music etc... ) - the only thing provided is an abstract idea and for the first 60sec. piece - the video parts.

Impossible to answer your question without seeing the assignment and the tools you are using.

Thank you guys! Here are the links to the videos I’m talking about (I hope it’s allowed to post them here). I’m working with Premiere CC and Photoshop. Again, no elements provided, only the video and the rough idea. The style of the videos is totally based on the “possible boss’ “ expectations.

I’m afraid, the first one (60sec.) took me more than 8 hours - two versions, with a final third one, with all of the searching of the elements and then fixing them in Photoshopplus some corrections from the possible future boss.
The second one took me like 4-5 hours. The same reasons. Honestly, starting from a blank page and figuring out what to do, took most of the time (trying different rough cuts etc..)
Does it sounds awful or not so bad? -
Well, it would have taken me a long time to produce the graphics, but the editing I could do in Vegas in well under an hour. You are compositing about six different elements together over a static background, and then keyframing some of the elements so that they move horizontally and vertically across the screen. This is trivially easy in Vegas.
I can't help with writers block (you say it took a long time to figure out what to do).
Also, I tend to work really fast, and I have written over 100 scripts to automate much of what I do in Vegas.
