    i have this problem ..

    im trying to output RGBs from a fairlight cvi into a framemeister and capture it with a PC. Fairlight RGBs > Framemeister > Gamecaptur > pc
    when the fairlight is working standalone (with no external video going in to it) it works great and i can capture beautiful crisp footage from the Fairlight but when i feed the fairlight with any external video (from VCR or PC) the output footage jumps all around as it has some sync problems (i assume)
    now the problem is not with the fairlight because when i output the fairlight RGBs to a CRT monitor everything works great
    also when i output a composite video from the fairlight into the framemeister all is good but i want to use the RGB as it looks much better!

    i attached the FairlightCVI specs if it helps in any way
    im trying to find a solution for this problem for a few years now with no success .. any help would be much appreciated

    The issue is with your routing & support of sync.

    Sync works well in simple point-to-point configurations (where you have isolated, self-syncing islands), or in universal master/slave configuration (where everything takes its sync from the master).

    However, you are doing point-to-point-to-point-to-point type, with no master sync. Or with a master sync source where not all the devices will follow suit as slaves. In those instances, you will ALWAYS experience missync issues like you demonstrate (rolling, flipping, hum bars, shakey/warble).

    The solution is simple: either revert to simple point to point islands, capture plainly and then combine later in an NLE, or graduate to much more expensive framestore & capture options which ALL support external sync (aka genlock).

  3. Buy or borrow oscilloscope (some digital will be better as you can easily get captures to receive help) and investigate what's going on...

    so why there is no problem when its all connected with composite ?

    Composite follows a rigorous, common standard WRT rez & framerate (NTSC, PAL), so it's easily frame-buffered and/or resynced to.
    RGB/Sync or RGBHV does not, there is a very wide gamut of possible combinations, most non-standard, in existence.

    i managed to solve it!! composite video from pc into the fairlightCVI > process > RGB out and sync i took from video in loop thru into a sync separator and everything is working perfect!
