I've tried several capture devices to transfer my old Hi8 tapes to my PC.
Everything installs ok, the image records but no audio.
I've checked all my audio settings and just can't see where I'm going wrong.
I've been at this for weeks now, and I'm desperate to save my old tapes before something happens to them.
I'm currently trying to capture them off the player they were recorded with, which is a Sony Handycam CCD-TRV108E.
I also have a JVC GR-D390EK and a Sony Handycam DCR-SR37E.
In addition to my usual computer set up, I also have a Win XP system, which I had success with some years ago, but not now unfortunately.

It will certainly assist an answer if you state your capture device and the capture software.

Also the cabling method for the audio
-
Are you selecting the correct audio input device in your capture software?
