Panasonic PV-DV400D - can't get PC to recognize it

Hello all,

I've a firewire port on the front of my pc (6 pin) and this camcorder has a DV port (4 pin). I have a cable to connect it, but WinDV isn't recognizing the device. I'm not certain the cable is good as I have nothing else to test it with, but it's been used in the past successfully with a difference camera (but way in the past, like 5 years maybe).

I'm running Windows 7 and WinDV 1.2.3.

Also tried "VHStoDVD" with it's VidBox converter using AV/out from camera to composite on the VidBox and USB to the pc.
No luck.

Any suggestions or am I missing something with the firewire port?

Is the camera in Playback mode?

Sorry, I left that part out. It only has camera and vcr modes, I had it in vcr mode which I've assumed is the same as playback.
