Hi Folks:
I am trying to RIP a DVD using Sefys classical newbie start DVD ripping guide. However, I am having problems with the very first step. When I use the smartripper application, it comes up with an error "ASPI- adapter not available". Please help. What do I need to do?
I tried using DVD2SVCD with the same results.
I have a Athlon XP1800+ with an ATI Radeon 8500DV AIW card.

P.S. Can somebody point me to a reference that explains vob files.

go to the tools page and download the ASPI drivers--WinXP doesn't come with them preinstalled by default, I don't think...

No XP does no come with them by default. use aspi drivers ver 4.60.
May the force be with you. -

Thanks for your replies. OK, I got over that first hurdle. But, I am stuck again. The smartripper application complains about the "VTS_01_0.VOB file in locked. Try unlocking with a player". What should I do?
Thanks,

Play the DVD using your software DVD player for a few minutes. That should unlock it.

If you don't have a DVD player, check on some DVD. There are a number of free DVD player software the comes on some DVD for PC. You could use it, then run the DVD disc for a while to "unlock the disc."*
After that, you can now rip the DVD. And don't be afraid to ask again for your next step. It's like learning to ride a bicycle, once you get it you will be able to do it yourself.

If you are using 2000 or XP, you might even want to consider CladDVD XP, it will also save you the next step by running DVD2AVI automaticly when it is done ripping.
