  1. Hello,

There is a special edition DVD set being released soon, but only for Region 4 - I am ordering this set from Australia. I hope to be able to easily convert these PAL DVD's to NTSC VCD's to view on my living room DVD player and Television. I plan on using TMPGEnc to convert the raw DVD files to VCD-NTSC.

I wanted to ask if anyone had an alternate suggestion, or any problems I should watch out for? Here is a list of my equipment:

Computer ripping system: Celeron 733 512meg RAM 40gig ATA-100 HD 16meg Voodoo3 w/TV out ATI PCI TVWonder video capture and Raite 8X DVD-rom (no region protection)

Home DVD player is a Phillips Magnavox DVD825 and Phillips Magnavox 27" TV. I have been able to play NTSC VCD's in this player, but have had problems with PAL ones.

Thanks in advance for anyones help or suggestions.

PS - The special edition DVD set is Battlestar Galactica here is the link for anyone who is interested :)

Hi, I am from Australia and very interested on your post regarding Battlestar Galactica DVD Collection. I wouldn't mind having the TV series collection for my own enjoyment.

The whole collection is over 18 hours, are you sure want to convert all into NTSC VCD? This will take you a long time to process the conversion and seem to be forever to transfer. I 'd rather view the series straight from the box with the DVD player.

Do you have a multi-region DVD player to view region 4?

Unfortunately, my DVD-ROM is region 4 only and my DVD player is multi region. I have been wondering about this before, however the other way around, from region 1 DVD to VCD. Would the "region lock" stop me converting it to NTSC VCD? Does anybody know?

I am planning another DVD-ROM in another computer as region 1 or unrestricted. Is this a better solution?
