It was inevitable. The broadcast industry is now describing people who skip over commercials as thieves! And with new technology like HDTV and insane laws such as the DMCA, they may very well make it stick in the future...

SonicBlue, the maker of the ReplayTV digital video recorder, will challenge a court order to track the viewing practices of customers and send the data to TV networks and film studios, the company said Friday.

Sonicblue chafes at ruling
Maker of ReplayTV told to gather data.
In a ruling that has alarmed consumer rights groups and electronics companies, a federal judge ordered a maker of digital video recorders to monitor how its customers skip commercials and swap shows.

Interesting storys about recording (cable) TV, don't we already pay for our viewing rights with a subscription for cable and satelite TV? What gives? We pay for the signal and now being forced to view the commericals!

I have a vcr that skips over commercials. it's nice to have, too bad people have to complain about everything these days
