I'd like to merge both sides of a dual layer flipper and compress down to a single DVD9. I just want the English stereo audio and subtitles and the main movie. Don't need any extras, just the movie.

What would be nice is having one scene menu with direct access to all the chapters. I don't care what the menu looks like, pink with purple stripes and yellow polka-dots, whatever - as long as I can go directly to any chapter without any extra monkey business.

It would of course have to involve assigning new numbers to the Side B chapters.

I've done a ton of searching on this subject and the most recent info I've dug up is from 2009, while the vast majority of topics on flipper merging are from 2003-2005.

Why am I interested in this? Because I'm cheap and just did get a good deal on a used LotR extended editions set. They have both the theatrical and extended versions and for some crazy reason split them both over both sides instead of having one version per side.

Juuuust getting finished making ISOs with DVD Decrypter so I'll have the files to play with.... Latest DVDFab keeps claiming "read error", on DVDs from 2006? (Whomever codes that app doesn't know the meaning of Abort. Clicking that does NOT make it stop. Note to coders, Stop, Abort, Cancel, No, should *actually cause your app to STOP* doing whatever it's currently doing!)

Anyway, I find it odd that nobody wrote a program to do an extract of the main movie (or other split program), then create an *all new* custom menu (with a selection of pre-designed styles) and renumber the Side B chapters then compress for a DVD5 or DVD9.

Couldn't you just add both parts of the movies in dvdshrink and then output (with which audio you want) and then burn. There won't be a menu. But you could then create one in another program for the shrink output file. Not sure if there will be slight pause in the playback where the 2 movies will have been "joined" shrink. Haven't done this in years. I think I did it for my stargate movie which was a flipper.

That would make a lot of work renumbering the Side B chapters. :P Would be much easier to have a program to do it. Looks like the LotR Blu-Ray discs are flippers too. WTHF? With all that space they couldn't put each version of each movie all on one side?!?

If yer too lazy to get up and flip a DVD over, why go to a lot more effort to dig into the dark recesses of DVD coding? Much easier to have someone else go to a bunch of effort writing a program to make it easier for everyone else.
