I am trying to find a good service that will capture and convert my discs to a lossless compressed format on a hard drive.
How do I find someone with good equipment?

I recall a poster stated fairly recently (with the last six months or so) that they used a service for a transfer, but I think the transfer was bad. Maybe that poster will post here.
The catch with a LD transfer service is that no reputable video service would do it since almost all LD content is copyrighted. As suggested in some other threads, your best bet is to find an individual or user group that has the equipment to do the transfer properly. -
Reread your post and see you did ask about finding "someone with good equipment ".
Post your location so others can help point you to local shops. They may even be able to help you personally.
I did a quick search for "laserdisc forum" and came up with Laserdisc Database http://www.lddb.com/ which is still active and a LD forum at www.avsforums.com which seems inactive. However, even if there aren't recent posts, try contacting some of the posters and see if they have any info to pass on.
Also, if you haven't already, visit digitalfaq.com as there are some cross-members there who rarely post here at VH.
I'd also check with your local Karaoke bars/clubs and ask them for info their LD suppliers/techs. Even if they've moved away from LDs, they may be able to help.
Keep at it and work towards completing your project a soon as possible! I just read that this is the 40th anniversary of tLike videotape transfers, the number of good services and equipment is dwindling. In addition, laser rot is real. One of the reasons I gave up my LD collection last year was because some of my beloved discs were taken by rot.
Finally, don't confine your search to your country only. I've found DVDs and online videos that "were never released again" or "didn't exist" through (for me) non-USA sources.
