  1. Hi Everyone. Im new to capturing videos and I want to capture a movie that I have in laserdisc, and I want to have a digital copy of it. This movie isnt on dvd or blu-ray. Whats the best way to capture the laserdisc to my pc?

    I have:
    Pionner CLD-D605 LD player
Hauppage HD PVR 2 gamer edition

So I connected the composite cables to the HD PVR 2 and captured it that way. Is their a better way of doing it and to get better audio from the laserdisc.

The laserdisc has Dolby Surround Stereo, whats the best way to get the digital sound out of the bluray through composite cables? Thanks alot for your help.

Composite is correct for laserdisc. Our experts have long said that S-video actually is an inferior choice for laserdisc because of the way the format was made.

With your Hauppauge, the ONLY way to get it to capture in Dolby is that ALL of the following MUST be true.
    1) You HAVE to use an optical cable from the laserdisc to the Hauppauge.
    2) You have to set the laserdisc player to output the Dolby audio. I'm guessing all this probably means is that you must use the digital audio source and not the analog.
    3) Be sure that you set the Hauppauge device to record on the optical cable and it should automatically recognize Dolby input.

Dolby Surround = Surround track matrixed into regular 2.0 audio, not discrete Dolby 5.1 audio.

Th Hauppauge will capture it as AAC since it doesn't allow capturing LPCM audio uncompressed. Your AVR should be able to decode it the same way as from the LD if appropriately set up.
