  1. Hey mates.

Me dvd player can only play vcd\svcd up to 2520 cbr and i know dvd bitrate is approximately 3 times more than svcd standard bitrate.

I was wondering if me could encode an svcd up to 6000 onto a dvd cd and it would play? Does the dvd player read the cd and go from there or can it see it's svcd and limit its max bitrate to 2520 also?

  3. There are standard limitations and there are physical hardware limitations.

Most DVD players could probably play a SVCD encoded at higher than the max. allowed bitrate in the standard (which is equivalent to 2x CD). This is simply because DVD players have DVD drives rather than CD drives.

A 1x DVD drive can read a CD at approx. 3x CD. Thus, as long as your DVD drive can actually read CD-R/W media properly, you can probably make a SVCD with a max. bitrate of up to 3000 kbit/s and have it play properly on a DVD player.

However, for a SVCD at 6000 kbit/s, it will really depend on the capabilities of the drive in your DVD player.

Also, "DVD CD"??? If you author video onto a recordable DVD disc, you are making a DVD (not a SVCD). You should be able to put material at up to the max. bitrate allowed for under the DVD standard then (assuming your player can read DVD-R/-RW/+RW properly).

    Regards.
