    Hi,

  2. MediaInfo doesn't show any subtitle track. That probably means the subtitles are hardcoded (part of the video) and there's no way to recover the lost part from the file.

    Thanks, Sneaker.
Yes' the subtitles are hardcoded. I suspected that the format of the video somehow extends the limits of the screen. I found no way to test it.

  4. I doubt it. Probably the subtitles were in some kind of image format, e.g. at 720x576 pixels resolution. When re-encoding the file the encoder resized the video to 688x512 pixels but didn't move subtitles up. So the bottom 64 pixels (~=10% of picture) of the subtitles were cut off. Does that fit with what you are seeing?

688 x 512 is an odd size for a video.

    It sounds like either
    A) it was originally a larger image, and was cropped after the subtitles were coded into it, or
    B) as sneaker suggested, it was resized down to 688x512, but the subtitle location was not adjusted accordingly.

If the subtitles were already hard-coded in the file when you downloaded it, then there's not a whole lot you can do about it, other than trying to locate a different version of the video.

What do you mean you found no way to test it? Just play the video in window or open it in an editor.

  8. Try re-rendering it again at 720x576, and make sure the resolution settings are the same. This is a standard SD format so it should show up in your render settings, or if not do a custom setting to match. Do a 30 sec test rather than the whole movie again just to make sure your happy with the output [emoji106]

Considering the file in question is located in his "downloads" folder, I have a pretty good hunch he didn't do the render in the first place, so he wouldn't be able to re-render it either.
