    I was always curious about this. In many cases Adobe PS's auto levels can really bring a photo to life. Is there any possible way (say a generated log file perhaps) that would actually show me what options and settings the program used to do whatever it does for an auto leveled photo?

    This page claims to explain the Auto Levels algorithm. Keep the histogram window open and toggle the adjustment on and off to see what it's doing by channel.
