27" Samsung monitor (S27D360): has setting for 'wide' or 'auto'. Manual sez set resolution in control panel. It remembers everything in display settings (ie 1600-900) except 'stretch', allus reverts to 'center' on power-up. I have a bunch of wallpapers of different dimensions & scaling allus 'blurs' them, never as good as unscaled. Some are 16-9, & they fit just fine, , , duh.

Surely the resolution of the monitor (in pixels) is 1920 * 1080. Any other setting could confuse.

Why not just resize the images to the correct size for your screen? It'll solve your problem.

Windows xp display settings are controlled by desktop themes not display settings
Change it and save as new
Then set it as the default
That should be all that's needed -
I dont care what the 'optimum (native) resolution" is, the image would then fit, but then icons are too small for me, text is waay too small, resized images (using paintdotnet) get degraded, I've saved 'theme' more times than once, it is default, (shows as (named theme), still, restarts are 'center' not stretch.
"That should be all that's needed" It should be, but its not, , , ,
This is not an issue on my other comps, none of 'em are set at native rez, , , they work like I want.Yes, no, maybe, I don't know, Can you repeat the question? -
But there are display settings for larger text and larger icons ??????
When I upgraded my 1024 monitor to a 1920 one, I also had 'small' issues especially with browsers. But the solution exists without messing around with a display setting that, possibly, your GPU does not totally support.
Maybe a little more info might assist. Graphics card etc. -
ATI cards commonly screw this up.
XP-64 is a goatscrew I wouldn't touch with a 10-foot pole. Just researching the driver history for your card should show you why. -
Grafix card is "asus hd 5450 silent". Mobo 'ecs nforce6m-a' 8 gigs ram.
Installed 18 months ago, worked fine till 2 weeks ago. Reinstalled drivers, nada.
Win 10 not a goatscrew??? I have one comp with W7. Tried 10 for about 23 1/2 hours, , ,
